The Poindexter by Design team is experienced in a variety of CAD and analysis software including SolidWorks, Onshape, AutoCAD, and SimScale. Our focus on Onshape and its advanced cloud-based infrastructure allows us to work directly within your project framework.
All of our team is based in the United States.
We work in a wide range of CAD programs. However, most of our clients work in SolidWorks, Onshape, and AutoCAD. Our primary focus is Onshape contracting.
We are proficient in all phases of mechanical design projects from blue-sky concept ideation to final detailed part design/design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and documentation. Providing contractor support in Onshape frequently involves us in the full range of development.
Poindexter by Design’s focus is on industrial product design, machine design, and machine system integration. We tend to focus more on the industrial side. However, we do have experience in consumer product design as well.
Yes. We have decades of combined experience in designing for manufacturability and assembly: from injection molding part design, precision-machined components, sheet metal, large weldment structures, and additive (3D-printing) manufacturing, our team is well-versed in what it takes to develop cost-effective, manufacturer-ready designs.
Poindexter by Design is fluent in a wide range of design analysis (FEA, CFD): structural, fluid flow, heat transfer, fatigue, and modal. Specializing as Onshape contractors permits a wide range of simulation and rendering add-ons via direct interaction with Onshape models and documents.
Depending on the analysis type and client software preference, we use SolidWorks Simulation, and SimScale for structural, fluid flow, heat transfer, fatigue, and modal analyses. One of the many benefits to Onshape contracting is the ability to interface directly with SimScale!
Yes. Poindexter by Design uses several Onshape add-ons for renderings within Onshape or SolidWorks Photoview to generate high-quality renderings.
Poindexter by Design generates manufacturing-ready drawing packages from component drawings to large assembly drawings. Our team are experts in GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) for precision part design. Additionally, we are highly experienced in sheet metal and large weldments as well as work instructions.
We are also well-versed in bill of material (BOM) creation, and data management systems (for example, product life management (PLM), product data management (PDM), general file management, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems).
Our engineering team is well-versed in a wide variety of mechanical designs and industries, which allows us to provide exceptional value in our drafting. We review designs as we document them, quickly understanding the design intent and applying tolerancing where appropriate.
Yes. While Poindexter by Design is a fully remote engineering team specializing in Onshape contracting and consulting, we do have shop space for design prototype assembly and testing depending on project requirements.
In fact, a lot of our work supports as-needed capacity increases on an intermittent basis. We bring projects over the finish line by supporting tight-timeline efforts (drawing packages, CAD DFM, critical analysis, etc.). That said, we do often handle large, long-term projects and complex machine designs.
Yes! While we do not have a procurement team or manufacture parts ourselves, we do have a large network of recommended manufacturers. We often obtain quotes and communicate with vendors on our clients’ behalf for custom components.
Poindexter assures complete confidentiality. Typically, we sign client-provided NDA's prior to initial consultations. All intellectual property created by us is owned by the client upon fulfillment of terms and conditions.
No. We are a fully remote engineering team and work effectively through video conferencing and seamless integration with your software systems. Onshape contractors can be particularly effective remotely.
Costs can vary depending on the project scope. We generally provide initial budgetary estimates and invoice monthly for time and materials. Please contact us for a complimentary consultation.
On-demand mechanical engineering is our goal. Whenever possible, reserve some engineering capacity to be able to quickly respond to new time-sensitive projects or tasks.
We are experienced in the mechanical portion of motion and robotic system integration. Our partners typically provide the motion control electronics and software for these systems.
